Biography
Majid brings both operational and regulatory experience to his role, having held senior positions in marine safety, environment protection, maritime and port operations and management.
Majid started his journey as a deck cadet. After completing his BSc in Marine Engineering - Navigation, he moved into port operations. He later completed an MSc in Maritime Transport and an LLM in International Law and in International Maritime Legislation at the International Maritime Law Institute, sponsored by the Nippon Foundation. In 2014 he became a delegate to LEG 101 at the International Maritime Organization (IMO); later working with the IMO’s facilitation and legal committees, the CCC subcommittee, and the Expert Group on Data Harmonization (EGDH).
Majid worked as the head of the Safety and Marine Environment Protection Department in Chabahar Port, where he was engaged with IMO audits, dredging and hydrography, MARPOL inspections, IMS audits, and A2N, and supervised search and rescue, OPRC and firefighting operations in the Oman Sea.
Majid was later actively engaged with all commercial aspects of Chabahar Port, including port and terminal operations, warehousing, investment, and customs. In 2022, as head of maritime operations in Chabahar Port, his responsibilities included supervising VTS, pilotage, and Port State Control and Flag State Control.
Throughout his commercial and regulatory career, Majid has continued to engage with academia, participating in studies for port and marine development feasibility and EIAs, inter alia, value engineering studies of an MGX-24 terminal to accommodate container ships of 21,000 to 24,000 TEU, and an international passenger terminal.
Prior to joining Southampton Solent University in 2025, Majid lectured part-time at Liverpool John Moores University and has also provided guest lectures and short courses to the maritime industry.
