Mary Farron

Biography

Having qualified as an adult nurse (RN) in 2016, Mary has a clinical background spanning emergency medicine, high dependency care, and general medical wards. Alongside her clinical practice, Mary has worked within higher education since 2017, initially as a clinical teaching fellow before progressing to the role of senior lecturer in adult nursing.

Mary is committed to the education and development of future nurses and has a particular interest in module, curriculum, and programme design. Her work is underpinned by a passion for inclusive education, with a focus on supporting neurodiverse learners and students from non-traditional educational backgrounds. She believes that all students should be provided with the opportunities, support, and tools required to achieve their full potential.

Mary's research interests centre on student nurse self-care and wellbeing. Following the completion of an MSc focused on clinical decision-making in practice, she began a part-time PhD at Solent University in 2021, exploring barriers to self-care among student nurses. She is currently in the final year of her doctoral studies and has had the opportunity to embed emerging findings from her research within the nursing curriculum, with a particular emphasis on supporting student wellbeing both within the university environment and during clinical placements.

As a senior lecturer in adult nursing, Mary undertakes a range of academic leadership, teaching, and student support responsibilities. These include serving as level 6 lead, leading modules, contributing to curriculum development, and providing both academic and pastoral support to students throughout their nursing education.
