Biography

Mat is an experienced lecturer, quality improvement mentor, infection prevention and control practitioner, clinical educator, and researcher.

He is the current lead for two modules at Solent University: the Level 3 ‘Professional Practice’ module within the Social Sciences Foundation Year course, and the Level 6 ‘Quality Improvement, Research and Audit’ module within the BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Practice course.

Mat holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Southampton. His research interests are in infection prevention and control, patient safety, and clinical human factors.

Mat is also a member of the Research and Development (R&D) committee within the Infection Prevention Society. The Infection Prevention Society is an independent charity that strives to inform, promote, and sustain evidence-based infection prevention policy and practice at a local, national, and international level.

Further information

Mat's clinical experience includes nursing posts in Acute Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Clinical Education and Infection Prevention and Control. Mat also holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Southampton. Among other things, his doctoral study investigated the relationship between clinical human factors and infection prevention and control practices in complex healthcare systems.
