Biography

Naomi is a Registered Adult Nurse with over 15 years of experience in healthcare, having qualified in 2010. Throughout her nursing career she has been committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate patient care while supporting the development of future healthcare professionals. Her clinical experience (primarily acute surgical nursing and general intensive care) has provided a strong foundation in evidence-based practice, patient-centred care, and multidisciplinary teamwork, all of which continue to inform her approach to nursing education.

For almost five years, Naomi has worked as a senior lecturer in nursing, where she has had the privilege of educating and inspiring the next generation of nurses and nursing associates. She is passionate about creating engaging and inclusive learning environments that encourage students to develop confidence, critical thinking skills, and professional values. Her teaching philosophy is centred on student engagement, recognising that meaningful learning occurs when students feel supported, challenged, and empowered to reach their full potential.

A particular area of interest and expertise is the nursing associate role. Naomi is a strong advocate for the valuable contribution nursing associates make within the healthcare workforce and is committed to supporting their professional development and career progression. She believes this role plays a vital part in strengthening healthcare teams and enhancing patient care, and she actively promotes understanding of its significance within nursing education and practice.

Naomi is an experienced nurse educator with a strong track record of teaching and supporting students across Levels 4, 5, and 6 of undergraduate nursing programmes. As a module leader for a range of nursing modules, she has extensive experience in curriculum delivery, assessment design, quality assurance, and student support, ensuring learners are equipped to meet both academic and professional standards.
Her teaching expertise spans both classroom and simulated learning environments, with particular strengths in the delivery of clinical skills education. She is committed to creating engaging, evidence-based learning experiences that build students’ confidence, competence, and clinical reasoning skills. As a qualified City and Guilds accredited Moving and Handling Trainer, Naomi provides specialist instruction in safe patient handling techniques, promoting person-centred care and patient and staff safety.

Drawing on her extensive clinical background, Naomi integrates real-world practice into her teaching, helping students bridge the gap between theory and practice. She is passionate about supporting student success and fostering the knowledge, professional values, and practical skills required for contemporary nursing practice.

Naomi is passionate about the use of coaching as a transformative approach to learning, professional development, and workforce support within healthcare. She believes that coaching empowers individuals to build confidence, develop critical thinking skills, and take ownership of their learning, ultimately enhancing both student outcomes and patient care.

Through a previous role as a collaborative learning in practice (CLiP) facilitator, Naomi actively supported the implementation of coaching-based learning models across the Wessex region, working closely with clinical teams, practice assessors, and educators to promote coaching conversations that encourage reflection, problem-solving, and professional growth. This approach focuses on creating supportive learning environments where students and healthcare professionals feel empowered to reach their full potential.

Naomi is a strong advocate for embedding coaching principles within nursing education and clinical practice, recognising the value in developing resilient, compassionate, and autonomous practitioners. She is committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration, enabling individuals and teams to thrive in increasingly complex healthcare environments.

Naomi's research interests focus on supporting learner development and success within nursing education. She has a particular interest in the use of coaching approaches to enhance student confidence, critical thinking, and professional growth, exploring how coaching can support learners to reach their full potential in both academic and clinical settings.

She is also interested in examining factors influencing nursing associate attrition, with the aim of identifying strategies to improve student retention, engagement, and progression through nursing programmes. In addition, she is interested in exploring imposter syndrome within nursing education, investigating its impact on student wellbeing, academic performance, and professional identity development.
