Biography
Neil qualified as a mental health nurse in 1997. Following a brief period working in a local inpatient unit, he has worked in community health services for 20 years.
The key focus of Neil’s professional career has been crisis resolution and working with young people. He has worked with the early intervention and crisis resolution services as they started and developed. Neil has always had an interest in the psychological aspects to treatment, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy.
In 2012, Neil took a nine month break and worked with a local youth charity and continued to volunteer with them for a further three years. He returned to the NHS and enhanced his skill base and undertook further study to become a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist, focussing on anxiety and depression.
Neil maintains registration with the NMC and accreditation with the BABCP.

Neil has experience of working in mental health services in community and primary care settings. A key focus has been crisis assessment and resolution. Neil has worked with some of the early mental health crisis resolution services in Hampshire and moved to Southampton to help develop an out of hours assessment team alongside A+E.
Neil joined the early intervention in psychosis service as it started and developed. During this time Neil trained in behavioural family therapy, in both ‘Meridan’ and ‘Thorn’ methods.
Neil has completed undergraduate and postgraduate training in cognitive behavioural therapy.
