Biography

Sachish is a lecturer in marine engineering in Solent's Warsash Maritime School. He combines practical experience in shipbuilding and naval architecture with a background in artificial intelligence and engineering knowledge management. He holds an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, and a bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Indian Maritime University.

Prior to his postgraduate studies, Sachish gained extensive experience working in a shipyard across ship design, production engineering, and project engineering roles. This provided him with exposure to the full vessel lifecycle, from concept design and construction through to commissioning and sea trials. His work included vessel stability assessment, production engineering, and support for complex maritime projects. Following completion of his master's degree, he joined Tata Consultancy Services, where he supported vessel stability and weight management projects through software integration and engineering data management solutions.

Sachish's professional interests include product lifecycle management (PLM), integrated logistics support (ILS), Industry 5.0, predictive maintenance, engineering knowledge management, and maritime digitalisation. During his postgraduate studies, he specialised in natural language processing and knowledge graph applications, exploring how artificial intelligence can enhance engineering decision-making, knowledge capture, and information management within shipbuilding organisations.

At Warsash Maritime School, Sachish teaches naval architecture subjects and encourages students to engage with the emerging technologies shaping the future of the maritime sector. He is particularly passionate about helping students develop an intuitive understanding of ship stability and explaining the principles behind ship design and stability software, bridging theoretical concepts with practical industry applications.

  • Application of Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEAs) for ship general arrangement design and optimisation, addressing competing performance, operational, and regulatory requirements.
  • Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence and Diffusion Models for innovative ship hull form design, hydrodynamic performance optimisation, and early-stage naval architectural decision-making.
  • Application of Generative Design methods for the development of aesthetically pleasing superstructure.
  • Shipyard 5.0, encompassing human-centric manufacturing, and sustainable shipbuilding practices.
  • Technical, operational, regulatory, human factors, and cybersecurity challenges associated with remote and autonomous ship operations.
