• Fairness-aware AI: Designing mathematically principled frameworks for fair, robust, and explainable AI.
• Medical Image Analysis: Deep learning applications in mammography, ultrasound, and chest X-ray diagnosis.
• Multi-modal Learning: Integrating diverse data sources to improve diagnostic accuracy and model robustness.
• Mathematical Modelling: Multi-objective optimisation and dimensionality reduction.

• Fairness-aware AI & Clinical Translation: Continuing research on fairness-aware AI frameworks and the clinical translation of trustworthy machine learning models, specifically investigating multi-objective optimisation approaches for fairness-performance trade-offs.
• Horizon Europe (SEAGUARD Project): The Horizon Europe-funded SEAGUARD project (Sea Environmental Awareness and Guard Enhanced with Unmanned AI Robotic Detection). Dr Hassan’s specific focus within the project is on multi-modal sensor fusion, developing advanced algorithms to integrate heterogeneous data streams from unmanned vehicles and intelligent underwater cables to enhance maritime surveillance and environmental monitoring.
