William Lawless

Biography

Sports and exercise lecturer William Lawless joined Solent University after spending the last six years teaching in the 16-19 sector at Totton College and Queen Mary’s College in Hampshire.

William is not new to the University, having been part of the first cohort to graduate under the new Solent University banner in 2005. Having gained success studying the BA (Hons) Sports Studies with Business he journeyed down the M27 to complete his MSc in sports performance at the University of Portsmouth in 2007. Following this with his PGCE in post compulsory education (physical education) in 2008 also from the University of Portsmouth.

William’s most recent contact prior to working at Solent has been collaborating with Solent Sport’s High Performance Academy, developing a satellite centre at Totton College providing strength and conditioning to elite young athletes attending the college.

Being local to Southampton, William has interests including football and cricket. He is currently working towards accreditation as a strength and conditioning coach through the UKSCA and exploring potential PhD routes.

Further information

As well as spending six years in physical education, when he was a student at Solent William worked as a community football coach for Southampton Football Club. Over the past few years he was the high performance coach at Totton College linking in with Solent University’s High Performance Academy. During this time, he have also been the conditioning coach for Romsey and Totton Swimming Club.
