The reason I decided to stay at home and commute as a student was because I had a job back at home which I wanted to stay in so then I could commute to uni and still support myself. I think the benefits of living at home was: I still was able to see my family and friends and it meant that I could still travel home and still have the comforts of being at home, having a family cooked meal. So I've saved money living at home because I haven't had to worry about accommodation, haven't got to be thinking and budgeting when I get my student finance - how much of that's got to go on rent, how much of that's got to go on food, because I've got my family at home supporting me with meals and stuff.

Managing my time with the commute, I tend to block out the day. If I'm only in for one or two lectures, I say that I'm in from nine to five and then once I'm in university, I'm in for the day. I get work done once my lectures are finished - I can go to the library and then it makes my travel time in worth being in, and then travel home, finish off some reading, and once I get home I can fully switch off from uni. Even through commuting, I've still managed to socialise with the students at university - with people on my course. We've gone out for drinks after we've finished, before going home. I was part of the Climate Society so that worked around me being in University, and there's been so many Student Union events on whilst being at university that I haven't missed out on because I've been commuting.
