I have very fond memories of my time at Solent (Southampton Institute as it was then).

Mark was a great mentor and an inspiring lecturer combining detailed and in-depth academic knowledge with practical application. He brought intellectual property to life and introduced concepts of IPR which had previously been unknown to me, I always looked forward to his lectures and seminars including the intellectual and sometimes challenging, debates he had with us. He was always friendly and had time for his students.

I know Mark will be missed by family and friends. My condolences and best wishes to all who will miss Mark.

Very sad news. Although as a student I did not spend much time with him but in that little time one could notice the gentleness of his soul.

Any passing soul takes a lot of memories with them.

Mark will remain in our memories and prayers.

Mark inspired so many, not least me. He was an incredibly intelligent yet humble person with time for everyone. An immeasurable loss to Solent law.

Thanks Mark. Rest peacefully.

I am really sad, and speechless about the news. Mark Wing was not just a lecturer, but a great mentor and confidant. The door of his office was always open to students to offer his help and assistance to students. We have lost a great mind, a friend and Solent law will never be the same...

Your legacy will always live on in us forever and we are grateful for everything you did for us and for Solent Law.

One of the best lecturers I have ever had. Mark always supported me to achieve my dreams. Rest easy champ.

I am deeply shocked, Mark taught me at Masters and helped me through postgraduate studies. Mark had authentic difference as a lecturer and the Solent University Brand will definitely miss him.

I had the privilege of being both taught by Mark and then later working in the same School as him. He challenged and inspired those he taught. He nurtured and supported my research into intellectual property rights in the digital age and was always happy to offer advice and input.

Thank you for your support and guidance over the years. You will be missed and not forgotten.

Rest in peace.

Mark, you are an enormous loss at Solent as a colleague who, without fail, listened, provided help, provided different ways of thinking, worked so hard for students and was loved by them. Always the enthusiast for your work and that was picked up on by all around you. You are a man who made a difference for many. You will be missed by all who knew you.

Very shocked and saddened by this news today.

I'm an ex student of Mark's who, like many others, became somewhat of a friend.

He was a man who oozed passion for both the law and his students, to many he adopted the figure of a mentor and he revelled in students' success.

A man of the people he really enjoyed seeing successes in the legal industry for people from atypical backgrounds (and institutions let's face it), and strived to get them a fair shake in today's employment market.

I'll miss our political conversations, his very astute socio-political analysis was always food for thought.

His scintillating intellect coupled with his compassionate and generous nature is what will be remembered. He had a hand in shaping thousands of young people's lives so through osmosis his positive impact on the world is both great and incalculable. That can't be said of many.

If a man is defined by the influence he has on others (for good or ill) then he was a giant among men.

Rest easy champ.
