We warmly invite submissions for oral and poster presentations addressing the conference main theme:
“Sport in a Changing World”
The 2027 conference of the European Association for the Sociology of Sport will explore how sport is shaped by and responds to the profound political, social, technological, and environmental transformations occurring across the globe. We welcome contributions that engage critically with contemporary issues in the sociology of sport and related fields.
In addition to the main theme, we also welcome submissions aligned with the conference sub-themes, which will be listed below. Contributions from a wide range of theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches, and disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged.
We also invite colleagues to propose and chair thematic sessions during the conference.

Abstract guidelines
Abstracts must be submitted in English, and all presentations (both oral and poster) must also be conducted in English. Please note that translation services will not be available during the conference.
Each author may present one paper as the lead author. Authors may additionally appear as a co-author on up to two further papers, provided they are not the presenting author.
Abstracts should adhere to the following guidelines:
- Abstracts should not exceed 250 words.
- Each abstract must include the title of the paper, author name(s), and institutional affiliation(s).
- Authors should select the sub-theme that most closely reflects the topic of their submission and provide relevant keywords.
- Authors should outline whether they are submitting for an oral or poster presentation.
- The conference organisers reserve the right to determine the final presentation format (oral or poster) and session allocation.
All abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Conference Scientific Committee.

Oral presentations
Oral presentations will follow a 15/5 format, consisting of 15 minutes for the presentation followed by 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
Presenters are encouraged to structure their abstracts and presentations clearly according to the type of contribution being submitted.
Empirical papers
Empirical submissions should normally address the following elements:
- Introduction or research context and/or theoretical framework
- Aims or research objectives
- Research methods
- Key findings
- Conclusions and/or contribution to the field
Theoretical papers
Theoretical submissions may include:
- Introduction to the topic or problem
- Aims or objectives
- Theoretical reflections or conceptual discussion
- Implications for research and/or practice
- Conclusions
Methodological papers
Methodological contributions should typically include:
- Overview of the current methodological debate or state of the art
- Research aims or objectives
- Methodological reflections, innovations, or experiences
- Implications for future research
- Conclusions
Poster presentations
Poster presentations provide an opportunity for researchers to present and discuss their work in a more interactive format. Poster sessions will be scheduled within the conference programme, allowing participants to engage directly with presenters and discuss their research in an informal setting.
Posters should clearly communicate the purpose, methods, and key findings or arguments of the research.
Abstracts submitted for poster presentations should include:
- Introduction or research context
- Aims or research objectives
- Methods or approach
- Key findings or main arguments
- Conclusions and/or contribution to the field
The organising committee reserves the right to assign submissions to poster presentations where appropriate.
Poster presenters will receive further information regarding poster size, formatting guidelines, and display arrangements prior to the conference.
