Founded in 2001, the EASS promotes sociological research on sport and encourages dialogue between scholars working on sport, physical culture, and society. Call for papers
We warmly invite submissions for oral and poster presentations addressing the conference main theme: “Sport in a Changing World”. The 2027 conference will explore how sport is shaped by and responds to the profound political, social, technological, and environmental transformations occurring across the globe. We welcome contributions that engage critically with contemporary issues in the sociology of sport and related fields.
In addition to the main theme, we also welcome submissions aligned with the conference sub-themes, which will be listed below. Contributions from a wide range of theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches, and disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged.
We also invite colleagues to propose and chair Thematic Sessions during the conference.

Registration information
Registration for the conference opens on 1 November 2026. All conference participants, including presenters, are required to complete the registration process and pay the applicable conference registration fee in order to attend and participate in the event.

Professor Elizabeth Pike
Professor Elizabeth Pike is an internationally recognised scholar whose work has made a significant contribution to the sociology of sport, with particular expertise in gender, equality, diversity and inclusion, ageing, and physical activity.
Professor Les Back
Professor Les Back is Head of Sociology at the University of Glasgow and one of the UK's leading public sociologists. His research spans race and racism, migration, multiculturalism, urban life, music and sport.

The conference aims to promote open dialogue, curiosity and collaboration. We encourage participants to ask questions when something is unclear, to support one another where possible, and to approach conversations with openness and respect.
Participants bringing their own electrical equipment on campus are responsible for ensuring it is safe to use. Any personal electrical equipment should be visually checked by the user before being plugged in, and is connected and used at the owner's own risk.
