FA Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Goalkeeping

About this course

The theoretical elements of the course will consolidate the key technical aspects of goalkeeping together with the role of the goalkeeper coach, the development of young goalkeepers and goalkeeping growth and development.

Course pre-requisites:

You must be be aged 17 years or older, hold the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football, show evidence of having successfully attended The FA Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop and the FA Emergency Aid course. You must also provide a FAN number to enrol in this course. To obtain or retrieve a FAN number, please go online at: https://secure.thefa.com/FAN/Register.aspx. This is to ensure your attendance is recorded against the correct Football Association account.

What you'll study

  • Specific goalkeeping warm ups and cool downs.
  • Coaching basic individual goalkeeping techniques and skills including footwork, general handling techniques, shot stopping, dealing with crosses, and goalkeeper distribution and communication Understanding how to develop and improve goalkeeping skills and techniques.
  • Planning and preparing progressive skill/technical practices.
  • Maintaining the health and safety of the players and other coaches.
  • Maintaining the high standards of conduct to promote Association Football.
