About this course

Spend one or two semesters in Southampton, on the UK’s south coast, to further your education and immerse yourself in British culture. Enjoy an academically diverse and enriching experience while earning credit towards your degree.

You will have the opportunity to select from a wide range of subjects. Our career-focused courses are aimed at enabling you to learn relevant workplace skills.

Who this programme is for

This programme is for any student who has at least one year of university study in their home country and who is looking to broaden their international experience by studying abroad.

Exchange students: You may be studying with one of our partners. We will contact you with information regarding the modules and application process once you have been nominated by your university. There will be no tuition fee. Find out more.

'Free-movers': You are an international student and have organised your study abroad experience independently, without being a part of any exchange programme. You will need to apply directly to us and there will be tuition fees.

Solent students: If you are enrolled at Solent University and would like to study, work, or volunteer abroad, you'll find information on our funded opportunities abroad page on SOL.

What does this course lead to?

An international experience is incredibly valuable to your personal and professional development. Spending time studying in another country is a great way to develop independence, confidence, cultural awareness and a chance to develop a social and professional network.

If you complete one year of study successfully, you would also be able to progress to the final year of the course and complete your bachelor's degree at Solent University.

Tuition fees

The fees may vary depending on what type of student you are. Please see below for further information.

Exchange students

You pay tuition fees to your own institution.

Free movers

The 2024/25 fees are:

Full year: £16,125
One semester: £8,300

Solent students

You pay fees to Solent University and there are no fees to the host institution.

Extra course costs

Optional costs

There may be opportunities for students to participate in social activities and trips to local tourist attractions.

Fees for social and cultural activities are not included in the tuition fee.

Bursaries, scholarships and financial support

There are no additional bursaries or financial support specifically for the Study Abroad and Exchange programme.

Key entry requirements

This short course is only for international students coming to the UK.

Applicants must have completed at least one year of higher education and meet the English language requirements for the level at which they wish to study (undergraduate or postgraduate as applicable).

Visa advice

Students coming for one semester will need a Standard Visitor Visa.

Students coming for two semesters will need to apply for a Student Visa.
