Daniel Tisoň

Tell us a little about your career so far.

After Solent, I went on to do a Masters, and once I'd graduated, I applied for as many roles as I could. I was really proud to land my first full-time journalism job within a couple of months. It was during that first role that I started The London Optimist, a positive-news project I ran in my spare time. I spent a great year there before being offered my current role at The Sun.

What drew you to journalism?

I originally wanted to go into film and studied film and TV production at college, but I realised how difficult it is to build a career in that industry. I also loved creative writing, so I went to see a career counsellor to talk through what might combine both interests. Between us, we narrowed it down to journalism, and looking back, it was the right choice for me.

How did the course prepare you for working in the industry?

I really enjoyed the course and learned a good mix of theory and practice. What I learned at Solent has stayed with me day to day: the fundamentals of writing, reporting and media law all still come up in my current role.

What does your day-to-day look like as an SEO editor?

I'm one of several editors, and my job is essentially to help drive search traffic to The Sun's website through keyword strategy. Every decision we make needs to be backed up by evidence. We look at what's worked, what hasn't, and feed insights back to the editorial team, as well as what's trending and what people are asking Google right now.

What excites you most about the future?

I'd love to write more. It's the part of the job I enjoy most, and something I hope to do more of. I'm also excited about the possibility of one day bringing back The London Optimist. It gave me a real taste of what it's like to be an editor and lead a small team, and it's something I'd love to build on again in the future.
