For collaborative and franchise partnerships, where Solent University programmes are delivered by a partner institution, proposals are developed in line with the University’s academic governance framework. This includes consideration of academic standards, curriculum alignment, staffing, learning resources, student support and quality assurance arrangements.
Overview of the process
- Initial discussion and scoping – Early conversations take place to explore strategic fit, proposed provision, delivery location(s) and mutual objectives. Relevant academic schools and professional services are engaged at an early stage.
- Preliminary assessment – Initial checks are undertaken to consider academic reputation, regulatory standing, strategic alignment, capacity to deliver, and potential risks. Sign off required by relevant internal boards
- Due diligence – A detailed due diligence review is carried out, including academic, financial, legal and quality assurance considerations. Where required, a visit to the partner’s premises is undertaken.
- Business case development – A formal business case is prepared outlining the proposed provision, anticipated student numbers, strategic rationale, resource requirements and financial considerations.
- Academic approval – The proposal is reviewed through the University’s academic governance processes to confirm that academic standards, learning outcomes and the student experience will be equivalent to those delivered at Solent University.
- Partner approval to deliver – An approval event confirms that the partner has appropriate staffing, facilities, systems and processes in place to deliver Solent University provision.
- Formal agreement – A legally binding Memorandum of Agreement is finalised and signed, setting out responsibilities, quality assurance arrangements, governance and oversight.
- Implementation and monitoring – Once approved, the partnership is implemented with ongoing academic oversight, annual monitoring and periodic review to ensure quality, standards and compliance are maintained.
