18 May 2026

BSc (Hons) Accountancy and Finance student, Kitty Gray, shares how her course is helping her become career-ready.

With ambitions to go into forensic accounting or auditing upon graduation, second year BSc (Hons) Accountancy and Finance student, Kitty Gray, shares how her course is preparing her to start work and be career-ready in this dynamic industry.

Hi Kitty, tell us a bit about why you chose your course at Solent
“I picked Solent because of the atmosphere and the fact that it has the accreditations that I want for my future. Solent was also my first choice because the class sizes are smaller allowing lecturers to have a better connection with their students to be able to help and support them where needed.”

What are your future career ambitions, and how is your course preparing you for this?
“After graduation I would like to go into either forensic accounting or auditing as these areas interest me the most. One of my modules in second year and again next year is auditing, which is giving me a greater understanding of my career path. I have also recently gained professional mentorship with a company through a careers fair that was put on at solent, this connection is giving me real information about my choices in the future.”

How have you gained hands-on experience as part of your course?
“I’ve had opportunities for hands-on experience from day one at Solent, during welcome week for example we had a live client brief and a few days to come up with a solution before presenting this to the client at the end of the week. This experience and others have led to me being more confident when it comes to presenting not only in class but when interviewing for positions too.”

What’s the best thing about your lecturers at Solent?
“My lecturers have been really supportive, answering any question I come up with no matter how ridiculous they may sound. They are also really supportive of me with my disabilities, and they understand that these may impact my attendance or my understanding, but they help me the best that they can with everything.

What’s been the most useful thing you’ve learnt at Solent so far?
“I have learnt more about the different pathways available in an accounting career because when I was at college, the wide range of options wasn’t obvious to us, but through my studies with Solent, I have now gained that knowledge.”
