Opening doors to careers in architecture

13 May 2026

Southampton Solent University is continuing to build its reputation as a launchpad for careers in architecture, with graduates from its architecture provision progressing into roles at leading practices and major developers across the UK.

Building on its success and delivering professional accredited courses, Solent is further strengthening its architecture offer with the launch of a new Master of Architecture (MArch) course from September 2026. Accredited by the UK’s Architects Registration Board (ARB), the course represents a significant milestone for the University and creates a clear, integrated academic and professional route for students aspiring to register as architects.

Designed in line with ARB’s new Competency Outcomes for Architects, the four-year integrated Master responds directly to reforms in architectural education and training. The course integrates creative design, technical competence, critical thinking and environmental and social responsibility, preparing graduates for the evolving demands of contemporary architectural practice.

The new course will sit alongside Solent’s well-established and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) accredited BA (Hons) Architectural Design and Technology, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Together, these programmes offer students a range of professionally aligned pathways that reflect the diverse roles within the architecture and built environment sector, from architectural technologists through to fully registered architects.

Notably, the Master of Architecture will be the first ARB-accredited course offered by Solent, highlighting the quality and growing ambition of its provision. By delivering the programme in Southampton, the University is opening up new opportunities for local and regional students to pursue an accredited architecture qualification close to home, supporting access, inclusion and the retention of creative and technical talent in the region.

Commenting on the expansion of Solent’s architecture offer, Sarah Radif, Dean of the School of Technology and Maritime Industries, said:

“Southampton Solent University has a strong track record of equipping students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the architecture profession. The introduction of our Masters builds on that success and allows us to support students at every stage of their journey, from undergraduate study through to professional registration.”

Course Leader Dr Monkiz Khasreen added:

“The launch of the Master of Architecture course is crucial for students seeking high-quality architectural education. This course provides a unique opportunity for aspiring architects to engage deeply with both the creative and technical aspects of the field, all while remaining connected to their local community. By offering an ARB-accredited curriculum that emphasises practical experience and critical thinking, we are committed to equipping our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their careers and contribute positively to the built environment”.

Recent graduates from the University’s BA (Hons) Architectural Design and Technology course are now working at organisations including Corstorphine & Wright, BPTW Architecture, Faulkner Browns Architects, ADAM Architecture and Barratt Developments PLC, demonstrating the strength of Solent’s practice-led, industry-focused approach to architectural education.

With strong employer links, a long-standing reputation for student satisfaction and graduate outcomes, and a growing portfolio of professionally accredited courses, Solent continues to position itself as a leading provider of practice-led architectural and built environment education.
