'Are freedom of expression and freedom of religion compatible?'
Two prominent scholars in the field of Islamic Studies will lead discussions at this year’s annual Wilberforce Dialogue: ‘Are freedom of expression and freedom of religion compatible?’ on Thursday 21 May 2015.
Sheikh Dr Usama Hasan, Senior Researcher in Islamic Studies at Quilliam, a think-tank specialising in Islamism and counter extremism, and Professor Mona Siddiqui, Professor of Islamic and Interreligious Studies at the University of Edinburgh, will publicly discuss the potential conflict between these two freedoms and their perspectives on where Islam stands in this debate.
Phil Gibson, Head of Student Services says: “Our annual Wilberforce Dialogues set out to question current religious, social and political issues. This is a topical and important debate which will challenge whether or not it is important to express views even if others may object or be offended by it.”
Organised by the City Parish and Southampton Solent University, this free event starts at 6pm on Thursday 21 May 2015 in the Solent lecture theatre, Southampton Solent University Conference Centre, Sir James Matthews Building. All are welcome.
