10th August 2017

Southampton Solent University's Test Park ground is this week hosting many of the games in the inaugural Southampton Cup, organised by Southampton Football Club. This eight-day international youth football tournament features competitors from 12 countries in 40 teams, both in the boys’ and girls’ games.

While Solent is hosting many of the matches, our involvement doesn’t stop there. Many of our students are volunteering at the matches, either taking the match day images or filming and editing the games. Our journalism students will also be producing match day reports and you can follow their exploits on the Solent Creatives blog. Plus the 40 teams are also staying in our Lucia Foster Welch halls of residence.

The tournament opened on Saturday 5 August at the Saints v Seville game. The annual competition is open to both professional academy teams and non-elite teams for both boys and girls; teams play at least five games and get the chance to attend a first-team game at St Mary’s Stadium, with the finals being played on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 August.
