Winners announced for Alumni of the Year Awards 2019
The two winners will be presented with their award at the 2019 summer graduation ceremonies.
New for 2019, the Alumni of the Year Awards celebrate the exceptional achievements of our alumni and the difference they are making around the world. The awards are designed to recognise accomplishments in the arts, sciences, sports, and in business, public, personal, or academic life.
The judging panel reviewed over 20 nominations and was pleased to make two awards for 2019. The winners will be presented with their awards at the 2019 summer graduation ceremonies next week.
Alumna of the Year 2019
Tiffany Ridd studied BA (Hons) Social Work and graduated in 2017. During her time on the social work programme, she won the regional Young Ambassador of the Year competition hosted by the Prince's Trust. She was also shortlisted for the National Young Person of the Year award. Tiffany has since qualified and is now a social worker for children at Norfolk County Council. She was nominated and shortlisted for National Newly Qualified Social Worker of the Year for Children, at the Social Worker of the Year Awards.
Solent's award is given in recognition of Tiffany's outstanding accomplishments and commitment to social work while overcoming personal adversity.
Alumnus of the Year 2019
James Welsh studied BA (Hons) Business and Marketing and graduated in 2004. James is a serial entrepreneur and the owner of several successful businesses. He has been an active alumni volunteer offering guest lectures, business start-up panels, 1-2-1 coaching and mentoring with students, external course panel reviews for business enterprise courses/units, and supporting the Solent Sparks Enterprise society. He’s an Associate Fellow of Solent University and won the Enterprise Circle Southern Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2016.
Solent's award is given in recognition of James' outstanding accomplishments and commitment to business, entrepreneurship and alumni volunteering.
