Pretty Little Thing photographer shares industry insight
Fashion students from Solent recently had the fantastic opportunity to gain insight from a lead photographer at Pretty Little Thing.
Students from BA (Hons) Fashion Media, BA (Hons) Beauty Promotion and BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion and Communication recently had the fantastic opportunity to gain valuable industry insight from Pretty Little Thing’s Lead Beauty Photographer, Annie Evans.
Annie began working for the fashion retailer after she graduated three years ago, starting as a Junior Photographer and Re-toucher assisting on smaller shoots, before working her way up to become Lead Beauty Photographer for the brand.
During the lecture Annie shared a day in the life of a fashion photographer, and what students can expect in the industry upon graduation. She also shared advice on looking for work after their studies, suggesting students create a PR portfolio pack with examples of work that fit with the brand they are applying for, and to use LinkedIn to try and get contacts for the company you are interested in working for, “the worst they can do is say no” said Annie.
She further offered advice for the students when working on their final major projects, suggesting reviewing WGSN to stay on top of trends, having a plan B and getting consumer feedback as much as they can throughout the project to help with their marketing reports.
BA (Hons) Beauty Promotion student Anna Whittaker said of the lecture “The guest lecture was so informative and made me so excited for my future within the industry. One key point I learnt from Annie was to go for every opportunity and grasp each experience. I also learnt that as long as you are personable, passionate and try your hardest you can't go wrong!”
