Students take part in International Cruise Convention
The International Cruise Convention is one of Southampton’s major events and has occurred annually for the past seven years. Southampton Solent University students have taken the opportunity to volunteer their time to participate in the event, gaining valuable knowledge about the cruise industry and giving them experience to add to their CVs.
Students from BA (Hons) International Tourism Management, BA (Hons) Tourism Management and BA (Hons) Events Management applied for the roles. Successful students were then able to undertake a training session with the training and development manager of the cruise convention, so they understood the processes and work involved. The work was hard but extremely rewarding.
Roles included looking after the delegates, by making sure they were in the right place at the right time and helping with the trade fairs. Students were also given the opportunity to attend the conferences which were held on three major cruise ships: Royal Princess, Anthem of the Seas and Britannia.
It’s an amazing experience for the students as they were able to listen to a range of speakers and enjoy the various activities including enjoying lunch on board the three wonderful ships and attending the Gala dinner.
The cruise convention were delighted with the work the students undertook and have now already made noises for students to help out next year and which will also be the 10th anniversary of the International Cruise Convention 2016.
