Solent's business networking conference 2015

As part of the launch of the new School of Business and Law, the school have recently hosted a well-received business networking conference. Past conferences have proved to be valuable to local business, professionals and students alike, and this event was no exception.

Staff and students from all areas of the University were in attendance.

Over 100 delegates joined them in looking to the future of business, covering topics such as emerging technologies, the impact of employment law changes on business, cloud computing and globalisation.

The conference was opened at 3pm by Christine Fountain, Acting Director of the School of Business and Law, along with the afternoon’s unforgettable compere, Cailean Hargrave from education technology consultancy Portal.

The programme featured a range of workshops from Jonathan Cheshire OBE, Chairman of Southampton Solent University; Kevin Kimber, Managing Director of Cloud, SAP UKI and Marc Long, Partner at Clarke Willmott LLP. SSU lecturers Phil Jones and Mark Wing also ran two sessions of mock trials in the court room in SJM, which proved extremely popular.

Exhibition stands included Virtual Umbrella, who bought their virtual reality goggles, and office designers Spectrum Workplace, who assembled their memorable giant pink ‘Hive’ – perfect for interviews and private talks. Photography and filming at the event was done by students working for Solent Creatives.

The second half of the conference was opened by Graham Baldwin, University Vice-Chancellor, followed by keynotes from John Denham, Chair of the Southern Policy Centre; Dr Peter Waggett, Emerging Technology Programme Leader at IBM; Jennifer Gaster, Director at HR Heads; and Cailean Hargrave, Head of Education, at Portal.
