Solent's collaborative games network shortlisted for award

The Southern Independent Games Network (SIGN) – a collaboration between Southampton Solent, Bournemouth and Portsmouth universities – has been shortlisted for a prestigious industry award.

SIGN has been nominated in the Education Initiative and Talent Development category at this year’s TIGA Games Industry Awards. In this category judges look for initiatives that either deliver a high numbers of students into graduate level jobs; build effective links with industry; advance innovation, knowledge and research; or contribute to the future supply of quality personnel to work in the games industry.

Officially launched in November 2014, the not-for-profit network was established to represent and support independent video games developers and facilitate the growth of the sector in the southern region.

Speaking on behalf of SIGN, Andrew Mitchell Programme Group Leader of Computing and Digital Arts at Southampton Solent University says, “To be recognised in this way when we’ve been operating for less than a year is truly gratifying.” He went on to say, “We have seen in recent years how some regions have produced strong, high-profile, games company ecosystems through the developers coming together in a coordinated, connected approach, and this is what we are looking to achieve here in the south.”

The TIGA Games Industry Awards focus on the best games in the industry over the last 12 months as well as highlighting and rewarding best practice from those contributing to its long-term success.

The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 12 November 2015 at Jerwood Hall, St Luke’s – home to London Symphony Orchestra.

SIGN will be holding its second conference at Southampton Solent University on 9 December 2015. For more information contact
