Students from our music courses were recently visited by American singer, Ana Matronic, best known as female co-lead vocalist in the award-winning band, Scissor Sisters.

With a successful background in the music industry, Ana watched student performances and gave some industry advice and top tips to students who are beginning their own musical careers.

Fenella Saunders, BA (Hons) Popular Music Performance drummer, says: “It was beyond inspiring to have such a musical legend at our performance showcase. Our band, Artemis, formed earlier this year and to get to perform our original material and receive great advice in the early stages of creating and releasing music from such a hugely successful industry figure was amazing and motivating.”

Esther Frake, Senior Lecturer in BA (Hons) Popular Music at Solent University said: "We were incredibly fortunate to have Ana in on one of our artist development performance showcases, featuring alumni and current students from across the music courses.

“Ana took the time to talk about her own musical journey and offered some 'golden nuggets' of industry advice - as a hugely significant female figure in the global music industry and an amazing example of a 'portfolio career' musician. Working in multiple aspects of the industry, it was inspiring to hear about her current and past work and she was genuinely 'blown away' by the original material showcased by Solent students."
