Solent's Lawrie McMenemy Centre for Football Research introduces new football guidelines

New guidelines relating to conduct in technical areas have been introduced in the Premier League and Football League following recommendations made in a League Managers Association (LMA) commissioned report conducted by staff from Southampton Solent University’s Lawrie McMenemy Centre for Football Research (LMCFR).

The guidelines, which have been introduced for the beginning of the 2015/16 season, include: the production of a Code of Conduct for technical area personnel; the introduction of a warning system to control irresponsible behaviour in technical areas; and the development of a training programme to assist 4th Officials in their duties in respect of technical areas.

LMCFR Director and report author, Dr Richard Elliott says: “I’m delighted that the Football Association on-field stakeholders group have chosen to implement the recommendations made in the latest review of technical areas commissioned by the LMA.

“I sincerely hope that the new guidelines will enhance the working experience for technical area personnel and match officials at Premier League and Football League matches,” continued Dr Elliott, Course Leader of Solent University’s BA (Hons) Football Studies and Business degree.
