Biography

Kat is an artist and a make-up artist focusing on a critical and creative practice.

Kat explores the subject of death and gender through the art of taxidermy and birds’ preservation. Unimaginable, mentally unrepresentable, death is the unknown and constitutes the inevitable encounter with the incomprehensible. Various depictions and interpretations of death maintain the relationship between the world of the living and the dead. Such portrayals of the unknown move the viewers towards deeper self-understanding and shaping identities, especially in the context as abstract as own death.

  2. Teaching experience

Her work is inspired by overlapping of the fictional and the factual, allowing a critical approach to the narrative interweaving the disciplines. Kat is a moderator for MA Prosthetics and Sculpting at Pinewood Studios.
  3. Research interests

Kat is researching the subject of death, gender and taxidermy. She owns a small collection of taxidermy birds, which inspired the creative practice. Although those birds were shot in anonymity, they regained their identities in the course of Kat’s research. They became known and took an active part in the project’s development. Although they are dead, in a way they are not. They exist, sharing the principal of a memento mori.

Taxidermied specimens are dead but not gone, transformed into quasi-immortal beings with an uncanny independence. Therefore, Kat explores the duality between the absence and presence, between animate versus inanimate.
