Biography

Claire has developed a wide range of skills working across multiple industries in both the private and public sector for market leaders such as Nike, Manchester United Football Club and Right Management Consultants, and public sector organisations including higher education institutions, councils and the NHS.

In her role as Course Leader for Business, Claire is enthusiastic about embracing continual improvements to the student experience and constantly challenging the developments of the course. She has taught across many courses and subject areas, including standard, non-standard and blended provisions; she was also the inaugural Apprenticeship Programme Manager for the CMDA apprenticeship provision at Solent.

Claire is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an Advisory Board Member of UNLOC (a social enterprise organisation), and University Adviser to ENACTUS, a social enterprise student society. Claire is also an assessor, internal moderator and committee member of the Universities Professional Recognition Committee for Solent HEA Fellowship applications.

To enhance her curriculum knowledge further and support peers across other UK Higher Education provisions, Claire is also an external examiner at St Mary’s University and University of Leeds, and has been an external expert panel member at a wide variety of course validations both internally for Solent and at other UK universities, including reviewing their overseas provision.

Her research interests have allowed publications of conference presentations, papers and chapters in books, which focus around providing an excellent student experience, apprenticeships, student support and enterprise education. She has presented on these at national conferences and a range of teaching and learning events.

Teaching experience

Claire has taught at Solent University for eight years and led across business and leadership management courses for the past four years. She has taught a wide range of topics including personal, professional development, academic practice, dissertation supervision, placement supervision, global challenges, enterprise and innovation and a wide range of leadership and management topics within the CMDA apprenticeship provision. Claire is also the lead University Advisor for ENACTUS, a student social enterprise group who develop and deliver community-based programmes linked the UN sustainability goals. Claire holds her Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.

Research interests

Claire's research interests lie in academic pedagogy, particularly around supporting blended learning students and student support through academic mentoring. Her other area of research interest is enhancing learning pedagogies through technology.
