William Zoppellini

Biography

Will has served as a senior lecturer in the esteemed education programme at Solent University since 2016. He assumes the pivotal role of Level 4 leader, responsible for guiding students enrolled on the BA (Hons) Physical Education degree. In addition to his endeavours at Solent University, Will works with the European Association for Research in Learning and Instruction (EARLI), where he holds the role of JURE Coordinator for Special Interest Group 9: Phenomenography and Variation Theory.

Will’s expertise resides within the realm of pedagogical methodologies and their application to teaching and learning, as well as the domain of child development. Notably, he harbours a distinct fascination for the pragmatic integration of psychological research within educational contexts, with a focus on improving student motivation, critical thinking and fostering deeper engagement in the learning process.

Presently, Will is completing his doctoral research, exploring how psychological research in growth mindset is conceptualised and applied by teachers in educational settings within England. His academic journey comprises an undergraduate degree from Solent University and the attainment of a Master of Science degree from The University of Portsmouth in 2012.

Will has previously taught in primary and secondary educational institutions. During his time as an educator, he worked with a diverse spectrum of young learners hailing from varied socio-cultural contexts, as well as those with distinct requirements in the realm of special education needs and profound physical challenges.

At the higher education level, Will has experience managing student placements and work experience in educational settings; mentoring students and staff; and managing special projects on improving assessment processes and methods, strategies for improving student engagement in the classroom, and strategies for supporting student study skills.

Through his role as a coordinator at EARLI, Will has organised international conferences for academics and researchers, and facilitated networking events and other scholarly activities.
