Performing arts at Solent

Have you always wanted to take centre stage? In a creative field of music and dramatic performance, the craft of performance as an actor or musician is honed through experience and guidance in traditional and new techniques.

At university, you can build your practical performance skills in playing an instrument, singing, dancing or acting, in a creative community where you can build your on-stage performance network.

You can focus on either musical theatre, acting and performance, or popular music performance.

At Solent you’ll study vocational learning in up-to-date acting techniques, receive vocal coaching based on the highly regarded Estill Voicecraft model, and develop composition and stagecraft.

Southampton has a great tradition for live music, with venues hosting acts across city locations including The Guildhall, the Orange Rooms and NME favourite, The Joiners.

The arts are an integral part of Southampton, with The Mayflower Theatre – the third largest theatre outside of London, and centrally located in the city – offering West End productions, opera and ballet. Southampton’s Cultural Quarter also offers a vibrant art hub of live music venues, galleries and theatre space.
