Course overview
Gain in depth understanding of how to effectively manage all elements relating to a construction project, from pre-construction to handover on this Construction Site Manager Degree Apprenticeship.
This degree apprenticeship is predominately focused on meeting the needs of main contractors, and upon successful completion, you will be qualified for automatic Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute Of Building with no further assessment required, as well as having a BSc (Hons) Construction Management.
Throughout the course you will develop a sound knowledge and understanding of the role of management professionals in construction, as defined by the professional bodies, and its application in different contexts within the built environment. Studying a range of professionally focused modules including Technology of Complex Buildings, Maintenance of Buildings and Services, and Strategic Construction Management.Â
At the heart of the course is the development of problem-solving skills, with the course providing you with the knowledge to provide sound and justified management advice and guidance relating to production in a variety of different formats. Development of technical writing and presentation skills takes place throughout the course.

What does this course lead to?
Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, graduates will be able to undertake a wide variety of construction cost management roles at chartered level, such as site manager, project manager, planner or build manager.
Who is this course is for?
This course is primarily aimed at those who have already successfully completed the Construction Site Supervisor Technician apprenticeship or who have obtained a relevant HNC and are looking to develop their career. Applicants must be in suitable employment to be enrolled on this course.

What you'll study
Core modules
Economics and Financial Management
This module covers a range of activities that promote effective decision-making and positive business performance within construction industries, including; financial performance analysis techniques, profit and loss forecasting, project and head office cash flow analysis and general overheads budgeting.
Pre-Construction Management
To be a successful construction company, you need to have a good reputation of delivering high quality projects that are delivered on time and to budget, amongst other things but how do you get this reputation? By winning the work first and foremost. It is the responsibility of the Pre-Construction team to ensure that projects are tendered for within the expectations of the industry and with honesty and accuracy. This module prepares you for the requirements of pre-construction to provide you with the essential skills needed for the successful winning of projects.
Sustainability
This module investigates how the construction industry can achieve sustainable outcomes during the design, construction, operation and end of life of a project.
Technology of Complex Buildings
This module will enable you acquire a deeper understanding of construction technology principles at a more advanced level. The technology of high-rise construction, including quality aspects, is the central focus.
Construction Management
In this module you will gain an understanding of the application of theories in practical construction situations. In particular you will focus on construction site management, including people and other resources.
Maintenance of Buildings and Services
You will develop a fundamental knowledge of building maintenance, services and the refurbishment of buildings. The module will allow you an opportunity to analyse the underpinning concepts of building maintenance, refurbishment and the options available.
Successful apprentices will graduate with a:BSc (Hons) Construction Management
How you'll study
You will learn through a combination of directed learning, collaborative learning and guided learning. You will also make use of the University's online learning platform Solent Online Learning (SOL).How you'll be assessed

Students are assessed through a combination of academic assignments and occupational standards assessments. Coursework assignments can include presentations, essays, exams, case studies, practical assessments, and reflective accounts.
Apprentices are expected to go through an end-point assessment within three months of completing the course.
Apprentices are also expected to pass through an end-point assessment gateway as soon as they’ve completed their academic qualification, and that they will pass the end-point assessment within six months of going through the end-point assessment gateway. To pass through the gateway, the apprentice must have passed their degree; evidenced Level 2 English and Maths; met the minimum requirement for off-the-job training hours; completed a portfolio of evidence against the knowledge, skills and behaviours laid out in the apprenticeship standard; produced a work based project proposal; and hold valid Site Safety Management Training Scheme and Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme certificates.
The end-point assessment organisation is the Chartered Institute Of Building. The end-point assessment consists of the following elements:
- Online test
- Work-based project
- Summary of experience
- Professional discussion
Fees and finance
Businesses with an annual payroll above £3million will be classed as a levy paying employer and will be able to use funds accrued in their digital apprenticeship service (DAS) account for payment of the training. Please contact us for guidance on fees if you are a non-levy employer which will cover at least 95% of the costs.
- The programme cost for the 2024/25 academic year is: £18,000
Apprentices pay nothing towards their course fees
The course fees will be covered by your employer.

Earn while you learn
As an apprentice you'll earn while working and studying towards your degree.
Graduation costs
There is no charge to attend graduation, but you will be required to pay for the rental of your academic gown (approximately £45 per graduate, depending on your award). You may also wish to purchase official photography packages, which range in price from £15 to £200+. Graduation is not compulsory, so if you prefer to have your award sent to you, there is no cost. Extra guest tickets will go on sale after results publication and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. The cost per ticket is currently £15. Please note, we do not guarantee there will be any extra tickets available to purchase.
Entry Requirements
To study for an apprenticeship, you must be employed by a sponsoring organisation. The specific entry requirements will be agreed with your employer.
The part time route recruits directly to Level 5, therefore an applicant must be in possession of a relevant HNC/HND or equivalent. The apprenticeship standard requires a minimum of a relevant Level 4 qualification for admission.
Applicants must be in a suitable role and will be interviewed, alongside their line manager, to ensure that the role will provide sufficient experience for the apprentice to become competent in all of the knowledge, skills and behaviours laid down in the apprenticeship standard.
GCSE Grade 4 (or C) or above in English Language or English Literature or an equivalent qualification.
GCSE Grade 4 (or C) in mathematics, or an equivalent qualification.
Applicants who can not evidence English and Maths Grade 4 (or C) will be required to undertake Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths as a condition of their acceptance onto the programme.
Applicants to the apprenticeship programme must also have the right to work in England, meet the Educational and Skills Funding agency residency requirements, spend at least 50% of their working hours in England and be directly employed in a job role that will enable the requirements of the apprenticeship to be achieved.
What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship offers a unique blend of work experience and academic study. Candidates on an apprenticeship will work a paid job while simultaneously working towards a relevant qualification in their chosen field.
Apprentices are employees with a contract of employment which offers the same benefits and protections as any other employee. Apprentices will typically work for four days of the week, using the remaining day to attend classes and study.
Higher degree apprenticeships
Solent offers a diverse range of higher and degree apprenticeships, all of which are underpinned with recognised and transferable degree qualifications (BA, BSc, etc).
Higher apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships give employees the opportunity to upskill in their chosen field or retrain for a new career while working.
