About the course

Spend a semester studying abroad in Southampton on the UK’s south coast to further your education and immerse yourself in British culture. Enjoy an academically diverse and culturally enriching experience while earning credit towards your degree.

European or International students studying a degree at a non-UK institution to earn credit for their degree, or non-UK professionals seeking career development opportunities, can undertake a Study Abroad semester or year at Solent University.

You will have the opportunity to select from and study a wide range of units from across the University. Our career-focused courses are aimed at enabling you to learn relevant workplace skills.

Even for a short period of study on the Study Abroad programme, you will be able to immerse yourself in British University life and engage in a varied academic and social programme.

The study abroad fees for the 2019/20 academic year are:

Per semester:
EU student - £3,650
International student - £4,650

Other costs

Optional costs

There may be opportunities for students to participate in social activities and trips to local tourist attractions.

Fees for social and cultural activities are not included in the tuition fee.

    This short course is only for European and International students coming to the UK.

    Applicants must have completed at least one year of higher education and meet the English language requirements for the level at which they wish to study (undergraduate or postgraduate as applicable).

How to apply

To apply for a place as a study abroad student at Solent University, please complete our online application:

Undergraduate study abroad:

Apply for one full academic year (23 September 2019 start)

Apply for 1st semester (23 September 2019 start)

Apply for 2nd semester (20 January 2020 start)

Postgraduate study abroad:

Apply for MA programmes 2nd Semester (20 January 2020 start)

Apply for MSc programmes 2nd semester (20 January 2020 start)

Once your application has been received, you will be contacted directly about your curriculum choices. If you would like to discuss your course choices before submitting an application, please email international.exchanges@solent.ac.uk.

If you wish to take units in visual arts you should also send us a portfolio. If you wish to study performance units you should send us a DVD of one classical and one modern piece. 

Deadlines for applications for study abroad students are normally:

  • 31 July for semester one/full year
  • 15 November for semester two 

Late applications may be considered by special arrangement.

If you do not hold an EU/EEA passport, you may be required to obtain a visa to enter the UK. Please refer to the UK Border Agency website and our visa information pages.

Web-based learning

Solent's virtual learning environment provides quick online access to assignments, lecture notes, suggested reading and other course information.

The Student Hub

The Student Hub is a central space where you can access all of the information and support you need during your time at University.

Professional and experienced staff can help resolve any query, and if they cannot answer the question themselves they will find the person who can.

You will have access to a wide range of facilities relevant to the units you select. Solent University invests a great deal in teaching and learning facilities, providing students with the opportunity to use industry-leading equipment to aid study.

Southampton is located just over an hour away from London. Students also enjoy easy access to the New Forest National Park and the Solent, a top yachting destination.
