We're incredibly proud of our student, staff and alumni volunteers for their contribution and support.

2nd June 2021

The first week in June is an opportunity to thank volunteers at Solent University for their fantastic contribution and support. Volunteering helps make a difference to the University, the city, and a student’s time at Solent.

This year is no different; while the coronavirus (Covid-19) may mean our usual celebrations can't take place, we still want to acknowledge and thank all our volunteers for their contributions over the last year.

Thank you to our volunteers

Individuals are involved with volunteering in various ways at Solent. In the last 12 months, over 165 alumni volunteered, giving at least 200 hours to support our students by participating in our mentoring scheme and providing guest lectures and work placements for students. You can see some of our alumni volunteers in action on our YouTube channel. For example, eight of our alumni met with course leader for media technology, Polly Hickling to discuss their current roles, what they enjoy most and how their studies at Solent have helped them in their careers.

Staff and students volunteer to support our local community through our official partnerships and at key civic events throughout the year, including the virtual Southampton Pride and local community station, Unity 101.

The coronavirus has affected the way many of our volunteers support students and the local community. However, many volunteers have continued to support virtually, with alumni and staff from our official partners participating in guest lectures and career talks online.
