Students will take to the stage at the Southampton Guildhall for their graduation ceremonies this July

5th July 2022

Around 2200 students will get the opportunity to wear their caps and gowns with pride as they graduate with degrees and professional qualifications from Solent University during eight ceremonies, over four days, from 12 July.  

 The events will showcase the latest graduate talent from the 2022 academic year - ranging from Art Design and Fashion, Sport, Health and Social Sciences, Media technology, Business and Law and Maritime Science and Engineering. 

Of the week’s ceremonies, Vice-Chancellor Professor Karen Stanton says: “I’m thrilled to welcome our students for a celebration of their academic successes. The students have worked incredibly hard, following a challenging couple of years, and should be very proud of themselves.

Solent is renowned for industry-led education and experience, ensuring our students are well prepared as they embark on their unique paths. I wish them every success in their future careers.”

The University will also be presenting honorary degrees to academics and professionals who have made an outstanding contribution in their field of expertise. This year’s recipients are: 

Admiral the Right Honourable Lord West of Spithead GCB DSC - Doctor of Architecture and Engineering

Awarded the honorary degree of Emeritus Chancellor in recognition of his outstanding leadership, service and contributions to Solent University.

Phil Packer Doctor of Human Sciences

Awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Human Sciences, for his services to sport.

Dan Walker- Doctor of Media

Awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Media, for his services to journalism

Paul Machliss – Doctor of Arts 

Awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Arts, for his services to Film and Television

Alex Crawford – Doctor of Arts

Awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Arts for her services to journalism.

Alex Fynn – Doctor of Sport 

Awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Sport for his services to football.

Rt Hon Justine Greening - Doctor of Science

Awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science for her services to education.

Hans Galutera  – Doctor of Science

Awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Design recognising his outstanding contribution to the design industry.

Nile Rodgers and Merck Mercuiadis – Doctor of Music

Awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Music, in recognition of their services to the music industry.

Graduates will be able to share their experience with friends and relatives unable to attend the ceremony via a livestream on YouTube.
