Internship Experience: Daniel Summerton

BA (Hons) Business Management student Daniel Summerton talks about his experience during his internship with Enterprise.

“Failure to plan, is succeeding to fail”.

My name is Daniel Summerton, a student on BA (Hons) Business Management and never in my opinion have truer words been spoken.

Where am I going with this you may ask? Well I’m going to be crystal clear and say that one thing is for sure, when you leave University and enter the real world, nobody is going to knock on your door and hand you a job.

That is why when you decide your route through Uni, make sure that it includes a placement year on your course of choice. I can safely say that it is by far the best decision I have ever made because not only does it help you gain invaluable work experience (see Catch 22 – ‘You need experience to get a job, but a job to get experience’) it also helps you understand first-hand what life will be like when you have that roll of paper and you move on from the parties and drinking!

This is where Enterprise Rent-a-Car became my life line for personal development and career prospects.

They gave me the responsibility to shape my own career because Enterprise doesn’t just make an employee; they mould a person through extensive training and help you to become the business person you aspire to be.

Initially through the interview stage and onto the job itself, they help you create strong work ethic and understanding of how things work in the real world of business. The hours are long and the work is tiresome but the rewards you can reap are endless (sales incentives and even commission on certain sales!) and this means you’re getting a head full of knowledge and a pocket full of cash!

Ultimately, Enterprise have an outstanding corporate structure that streamlines promotion and success, giving you the tools to be your own boss and giving you a great chance at returning to the position after you finish your degree. Which is the reason why Enterprise is one of the top 50 Intern and graduate employers in the UK, so don’t just take my word for it.

An internship at Enterprise is not just a job – it is an experience.
