Launch of retail qualifications
Here, Southampton Solent Business School writes about the launch of the new retail programmes.
We recently celebrated the launch of the retail qualifications at Southampton Solent Business School (SSBS) which include FdA Retail and BSc (Hons) Retail Management. Representatives from retail organisations, centre managers and skills development managers from Southampton City Council and local further education colleges also joined our celebration. With such a fantastic networking opportunity and an enjoyable buffet, the room was filled with positive energy.
Thought provoking speeches were delivered by Martyn Phillips (director – leading edge), Jane Rexworthy (director – national skills academy for retail) and Scott Taviner (retail operations manager – Southern Co-operative). Topics included the long term impact of omni-channel retailing, what this means for the development and training of retail staff as well as personal thoughts on developing future retails leaders.
A number of SSBS lecturers have great retail experience in organisations like Marks and Spencer, Tesco and Sainsbury’s so the launch of both the retail network and the qualifications route is really exciting. The courses can all be undertaken via blended delivery. This means that learning is delivered through online courses mixed with attendance on campus a number of weekends.
This new Retail Network joins a number of other successful SSBS networks in Marketing, Law and HRM.
If you’d like to join any or all of these networks please do get in touch.
