And the Oscar goes to...

The Oscars Awards Evening was devised in order to create a legacy amongst the University’s event management students and staff – awarding prizes to the most successful, innovative and illuminated minds each year.

The evening, which was arranged by the Solent Works team, was widely regarded as “awesome” and was successful in bringing the majority of the third-year event management students together one last time.

Attendees at the event.

The Solent Works team toiled mightily to put on the show of the year, spending weeks canvassing for sponsorship, designing tickets and orchestrating the team to deliver a successful event.

It was a most rewarding experience, watching the event unfold successfully and all our efforts being appreciated.

We would not have been able to make it happen without guidance from Sheridan Easton, technical support from Mark Couto and Matt Bunday, our volunteers and our great sponsors: Destination Southampton, DBP, Theme Traders, Southampton Solent University and many more…

To gain a little of insight into the guests’ experience of the event, and their plans for the future, we asked all of the delighted winners a few questions. Here is some of what they said:

“I’m so proud to have won two awards at this year’s Oscars evening. I’ve put everything into the last three years, not only in my assignments, but also in gaining events experience to accompany my degree.

“It’s really great that this awards ceremony has been created by the students, for the students, to recognize achievements in our studies.” (Saffron Dixon)

“I feel really privileged and a little bit surprised to win the Most Employable Award, I wouldn’t say that I’m the most academic student although I do put a lot of time and effort into voluntary work, work placements and my part time jobs.

“It really is a compliment to be awarded with this and i think it will give me a little bit of a confidence boost when applying for positions in the future.” (Kimberley Stone)

We at Solent Works are grateful for the support and feedback we have received throughout the event process and after the event. We feel honoured to be a part of such an dynamic team and we hope that we have passed on some of our knowledge and organisational skills to the first and second years who were a part of the event.

We are so thankful to all those who attended and we hope that next year’s event is even more successful than the 2015 Oscars Awards Evening.
