Described by Gramophone Magazine as "pioneering", Christopher D. Lewis is a classically trained harpsichordist,and a Naxos Records recording artist, and an internationally known authority on the harpsichord in both classical contemporary music and in popular culture. Originally from Rhiwbina, Cardiff he relocated to Canada in 2005 to study at McGill University in Montréal, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree. Following this he went on to complete his Master of Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, both degrees with a specialisation in contemporary music performance. He recently completed an Arts and Humanities Research Council and National Trust funded PhD in musicology at the University of Southampton, which was focused on the history of the modern British harpsichord as used in a classical contemporary music and across a range of different contemporary media, including the use of the instrument in pop, film, and television music.
As a performer he has performed internationally including across Europe, North America and even in the South Pacific. With Naxos Records he has released four full-length albums that feature both solo and orchestral arrangements. His most recent recording was a collection of works for the harpsichord composed by Vincent Persichetti, which was released in summer 2017.
He is connected to the world of music marketing through planning and managing various different kinds of strategic promotional campaigns, often centred around social media, for a number of high-profile orchestras and musicians. He is continually seeking out the best and newest methods for musicians to utilise the power of social media to best promote their art and remains focussed on learning the most current and relevant technological trends across both the classical and popular music industries.
When he isn’t studying, practicing or enlightening the world to the timeless grace of the harpsichord, Christopher enjoys aviation, British sitcoms, and is one of only a handful of people on the planet to have piloted a winged sports submarine.
