Biography

Christopher graduated from Northumbria University with a BA (Hons) Advertising and Graphic Design. After graduating he was employed as an art director for several London agencies: Lowe Howard-Spink/Horseman Cooke, The Unknown Partnership and D4, working on accounts for Boots, M&S, James Capel, Financial Times, Britvic, JPS, Virgin, Mappin & Webb, Beggars Banquet and Phonogram, designing brand identities for City Beat, Global Village and XL Recordings. 

After completing the MA Communication Design programme at Manchester Metropolitan University, Christopher worked as a lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University before accepting a full-time post at The University of Salford.

In 1998 he was elected chairman of the Chartered Society of Designers. He wrote the BA (Hons) Advertising programme prior to accepting programme leadership. The programme received consistent successes at YCN, Roses, DADI, Creative Pioneers and D&AD - winning Yellow Pencils across a range of categories from 2006 - 2013 including: viral, integrated, online and open advertising, applied graphic design, illustration, photography and copywriting. His current research projects involve the history of outdoor (billboard) advertising. He is a member of D&AD, The IPA and The CSD.

Christopher's work has been exhibited at The Golden Gallery: Soho Square, The Righton Gallery: MMU, Dry Bar: Manchester, Fusion - Visionfest: LJMU and has been featured in Computer Arts Magazine and The Guardian. He has completed external examiner roles at The University of Chester, Liverpool John Moores University, Huddersfield University and Stockport College. 

Christopher accepted the post of senior lecturer in advertising and communication at Southampton Solent University and, along with course leadership of BA Advertising, he teaches on the MA Creative Advertising programme. He also works as external advisor for Cleveland College of Art & Design.
