Francis has been a Registered Mental Health Nurse for over 20 years, with NHS clinical and senior management experience across a range of mental health settings from primary care to forensic provision.

His academic Interests are in the subject areas of International relations and health, psychological anthropology and internationalisation of nurse education. Recent public health projects include embedding mental health first aid across pre-registered nursing programmes and capacity building in community mental health literacy .

Francis is currently working towards a PhD with research in the area of masculinities and nursing.

  1. Industry experience

    Francis has worked in crisis intervention and acute psychiatry, as well as senior management of inpatient and community services.
  2. Teaching experience

    Before joining Solent University as a course leader in 2019, Francis was a senior lecturer at Northampton University from 2010.
  3. Research interests

    Francis' research interests lie in cognitive anthropology and international relations and health.
  4. Work in progress

    Francis is currently working on 'The Embodied Masculinities of Men Who Nurse'.
