Louis brings a wealth of industry experience having worked in national and international performance structures, providing strategic and long-term planning for management of elite athletes. Louis has an extensive background in player development structures from elite youth to senior level in football. He holds a UEFA coaching licence and the FA Fitness Trainers Award. Louis has been employed in a variety of roles within professional football clubs, including head of sport science, head of strength and conditioning, lead analyst and coach at AFC Bournemouth, Crystal Palace FC, Southampton FC, and Portsmouth FC respectively.

Louis also draws on personal experiences from multiple sports as a conditioning coach with the English Institute of Sport. He was responsible for optimising training programmes and maximising performance in competition of springboard and platform divers on UK Sport's World Class Programme at both the 2010 Delhi XIX Commonwealth Games, and the London 2012 Olympic Games. Louis continues to practice and works with domestic and world championship boxers.

Louis completed his MSc in Sport and Exercise Biomechanics at the University of Chichester before returning as a lecturer in performance analysis, teaching on the successful post-graduate programme. He is also in the process of attaining his professional doctorate in ‘Perception, efficacy, and impact of performance solutions on Professional Football Clubs’. An ISPAS accredited performance analyst (applied pathway), Louis continues to build an impressive portfolio of consultancy, having worked as a match analyst for ProZone; the pioneering football analytics company, Nike, Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby, Aldershot Town FC, and Battens Boxing Gym.

    Louis has previously worked with the country's leading football talent. He has contributed to the technical, tactical, and physical development of players including Victor Moses (Chelsea and Nigeria), Luke Shaw (Manchester United and England), Danny Ings (Liverpool and England), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool and England), Harry Arter (AFC Bournemouth and Republic of Ireland) and Wilfred Saha (Crystal Palace and Ivory Coast). Louis has worked at all levels of the English professional football pyramid (Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two) and has led departments and line-managed permanent sport science staff and consultant performance specialists. Louis has also coached and managed at step 1 and step 4 of the non-league pyramid and is a highly regarded football specialist.

    In addition to football, Louis has worked extensively in the area of strength and conditioning, supporting athletes to have successful careers in their chosen sport. Notable athlete achievements while under his conditioning direction include, Commonwealth Games 2010 gold medal (10m synchro), Olympian 2012, European and British champion (WBO international (light middleweight) champion, European junior champion (54kg), Southern Area champion (super bantamweight), Football League Championship promotion, Football League League One promotion.

    Louis has contributed to course and curriculum development at Solent University with the introduction of five new units in the areas of performance analysis, strength and conditioning and tactical development. He currently teaches across a wide spectrum of sport related units.

  3. Research interests

    Louis’s key areas of interest lie in the provision of performance support within elite sport structures. Having conducted action research for over 15 years as a practitioner, Louis focus remains on the investigation and understanding of best practice mechanisms in sports performance improvements.
  4. Awards

    A HEA Fellow, Louis is also an accredited strength and conditioning coach (CSCS) and holds the FA Fitness Trainers Award. He also holds a UEFA coaching licence and is an ISPAS Level 4 (Applied Pathway) accredited analyst. Louis is currently undergoing the BASES High Performance Sport Accreditation process.
