Biography

After finishing his undergraduate studies in sport management (BSc) and economics (BSc) in Budapest, Hungary, and working as a volunteer in Valencia, Spain, Mihaly moved to Finland in 2007. He graduated from the University of Jyväskylä with a master’s degree in sport science and management in 2010.

His PhD, completed in Jyväskylä in 2018, examined the development of Finnish and Hungarian football in a global perspective. He joined Solent University at the beginning of 2018.

He has taught a number of units in the field of sport management and sport sociology, including sport in society, globalisation of sports, sport management, sport marketing, sport in Finland and qualitative research methods.

Alongside his studies, he played football as a professional and semi-professional in Hungary (2001–2006) and later in Finland (2007-2012). After his playing career, he has been involved in goalkeeper coaching and obtained the UEFA B coaching licence.

    Mihaly's main research interests lie in the various aspects of globalisation of sports, the professionalisation in the different segments of football, and the changing field of youth sport clubs.
  3. Work in progress

    Mihaly is currently working on two articles about the changing field of Finnish sport clubs.
