Polly joined Southampton Solent University in September 2015 after relocating to the south coast from west London. Prior to her appointment, Polly gained extensive industry experience from 20 years of working in both the private and public sectors in a range of human resources, project management and consultancy roles. Whilst in her last role as head of people and organisation development (OD) at a local authority, Polly also chaired the West London OD forum. The work of the group resulted in significant cost savings as a result of effective partnership working and shared procurement activity.
Before working directly in local government, Polly worked in the financial services sector for eight years in a variety of roles including HR business partner. She also spent four years working for a large consultancy as the HR lead on a number of transformation programmes in both local and central government. Previous projects have included one shortlisted for the Pay and Workforce Achievement of the Year at the Municipal Journal’s Local Government Awards and O2 Telecommunications Call Centre of the Year Award.
In a voluntary capacity as a school governor for 15 years, Polly held a variety of roles at two large primary schools. This included a number of years as chair during which time she worked in partnership with the head teacher, governors and local authority to secure funding and establish a children’s centre at the school for the benefit of the school and wider community.
