Dr Russell White leads the culture, media and performance programme group within the School of Media Arts and Technology. Russell studied for his bachelor’s degree and his PhD at King Alfred's College (now the University of Winchester). He also holds a master's degree from the Institute for the Study of the Americas, University of London, and another master’s degree from King’s College, University of London.

Russell joined Southampton Solent University in 2004 having variously taught American studies, media and film studies and contemporary cultural studies at King Alfred's College for a number of years.

Russell currently teaches on the media culture and production degree. Units taught include ‘Global Media Industries’, ‘Media Culture and Ideology’ and ‘Creative Industries: Policies, Ethics, Debates’.

Russell also supervises third year dissertations. Russell likes electronic music, crime fiction, travel, football and cricket.
