Born in Dar-es-Salaam, and raised and educated in Kenya, Stephanie graduated from Bristol University with an honours degree in German and French. After specialising in TEFL on her PGCE course at the London Institute of Education, and gaining a BPhil in Language with Linguistics from York University, she embarked on a career in TEFL, teaching in Germany, Kenya and Botswana before finally returning to England. Having settled in Bath, she continued to teach EFL on short courses at Bath College of Further Education before becoming Head of EFL at Kingswood School, Bath. Since retiring from full-time school teaching, she has continued with part-time EFL work, accepting a position at Southampton Solent University as Associate Lecturer in 2008, where she now teaches language and academic skills to a range of international students. Her main interests outside academic work lie in nature and wildlife conservation, singing, classical music, gardening and travelling.
