Biography

Teresa received her BA in Psychology from Trinity College Dublin in 2011, before completing an MSc in Health Psychology at the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2012. Teresa was awarded her PhD in Psychology and Health from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2016.

Her research to date has focused on health behaviour change and the development of acceptable and engaging interventions for those self-managing health conditions. In particular, her work has largely focused on the development interventions for to promote quality of life in those who have completed treatment for cancer. Recently, Teresa’s work has focused on the experiences of older adults living with multiple complex conditions. She has expertise in systematic reviews and web-based interventions, as well as qualitative and quantitative research.

Teresa is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, and is a member of the Division of Health Psychology. Teresa is also a member of the UK Society of Behavioural Medicine and co-leads the Cancer Prevention and Screening Special Interest Group.

Teresa joined Solent University’s School of Sport, Health, and Social Sciences in the Spring of 2020.

    Teresa has experience teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  2. Research interests

    Teresa's research interests include health behaviour change and the development of acceptable and engaging interventions. In particular, her work has largely focused on the development interventions to promote quality of life in those who have completed treatment for cancer.
  3. Work in progress

    Currently, Teresa is working on the implementation of a structured conversation intervention to promote personalised care and support of self-management in older adults with complex conditions. This research aims to develop a training programme to promote person-centred care by health and social care teams.
  4. Awards

    Teresa received the Ruth Curtis Postgraduate Excellence in Research/Practice Award from the Psychology Society of Ireland, Division of Health Psychology in 2016.
