Biography

Dr Tom Masters is a poet, playwright, and short story writer who completed his PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at the University of Winchester. His thesis, entitled Towards Writing the Universe: Early Drafts for 'Silence', Practice and Theory, concerns epic poetry, apophatic theology, and big bang cosmology, and was published under the title 'Silence' by Winchester University Press in 2011. He also holds an MA in Creative and Critical Writing and an honours degree in English literature.

Tom is a member of NAWE (National Association of Writers in Education), and an associate lecturer with the Open University, teaching on their advanced creative writing module (A363).

During the course of his research Tom has both recited his poetry and presented academic papers on numerous occasions, including the Faith, Spirituality, and Social Change Conference (2006) held at the West Downs Conference Centre, Winchester, and the Hampshire Writers’ Society (2011).

Tom is enthusiastic about the role of creative writing within academia and is delighted to be teaching at Solent.
