Role at Solent

Catherine leads the University's engagement with research, innovation and knowledge exchange. This includes working with external partners and stakeholders to develop opportunities for consultancy, contract research, public engagement, and research impact.


Catherine has specialised in leading and managing research, innovation and knowledge exchange portfolios across a range of disciplines and subject areas, and has successfully led a graduate school with 550 research students. She has developed large multi-partner collaborations and consortia for successful Research Council and EU funding bids. Before joining Solent, Catherine led a successful REF submission of 12 units of assessment.

Catherine was invited by the Association of Research Managers (ARMA) to participate in the development of a fully-accredited certificate and diploma leadership, which is now offered globally. She is also an assessor for ARMA. Catherine joined members of the Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) Select Committee at the House of Commons in an enquiry into business-university collaboration.
