Elizabeth Mytton

Biography

Professor Mytton was awarded the designation Professor of Legal Education by Southampton Solent University in 2011. She was later conferred with the title Emerita Professor. She has an accomplished profile in academic leadership and legal education. She has received recognition for her excellence in teaching through University awards and through her professional memberships.

Her main subject area is criminal law which she has taught for over 30 years across the university and college sectors. Her teaching is informed by her professional engagement in the criminal justice system. She has recently held the position of Vice Chair of the Police and Crime Panel for Dorset. She has a particular interest in supporting witnesses through the criminal courts and acts as a witness support volunteer. She also has an interest in safeguarding and is the designated lead as a member of the Board of Governors at Bournemouth and Poole College.

She has a particular interest in medical law and dissertation supervision. She has developed interprofessional practice between Southampton Solent University Law School and Warsash Maritime School, as well as with health and medical science at Southampton Solent University.

Elizabeth has an established track record in the design and development of courses at the interface between further and higher education with an emphasis on enabling students from non-traditional routes to progress.

She has experience of working overseas in quality assurance and also in legal education. She undertook a significant research exercise in Georgia as it moved from a soviet to a democratic system. She has worked in China, Greece, Switzerland, Sweden and the Channel Islands.

Elizabeth has held senior positions in the law subject associations and has been an external examiner at a number of universities.
